Personal Training - Frequently Asked Questions

Why Personal Training?

Personal training is seen as a great motivational tool for many different reasons: it can help initiate someone into gym life, by giving them training on how to use the various pieces of equipment properly and safely. It can provide motivation for people of all levels of experience, whether they are a beginner hoping to lose a few pounds, or someone training for a marathon who requires a more specific workout. Having someone there to guide you every step of the way can provide the inspiration required to make the difference that you are looking for!

What benefits will I gain from Personal Training?

Personal training can be used to gain many different benefits for different people. In the main, it can be used to help you achieve your fitness goals. Everyone has a different fitness goal and Personal Training can be utilised to achieve these. Whether your goal is to lose weight, maintain a general fitness level, or train for a specific event, having a personal trainer can help give you the motivation you require to assist you in achieving them.

What can I expect from a Personal Trainer?

Your personal trainer should have your interests at heart. They will devise a personalised training schedule for your use, and coach you through it during each session. They will advise you on correct technique for different exercises, and gently encourage and motivate you. A good personal trainer will tweak and change your training routine every 6 to 8 weeks in order for it to remain challenging and interesting.

The relationship between your personal trainer and yourself should be an honest and open one. If you need to know or ask anything, you should feel that they are approachable. All personal trainers have their own methods and mannerisms towards coaching you, but it is all geared towards your benefits inevitably.

Where will I be training?

Many personal trainers tend to work in a gym environment, and the questions to ask here could be along the lines of: Which gym are you based at? Is it in my local area? Will I have to take out membership to the gym to be able to train there, or do I pay an admission fee?
However, there are some personal trainers that are equipped to train people in their home environment, although they may charge a little more for this service.

How do I get started then?

Most personal trainers prefer that you book a block of 10 sessions at a time. This holds the advantage of keeping you motivated, as everyone likes to make sure that they get what they paid for. Many Personal Trainers also offer a discount for people who do book 10 sessions, giving you extra value for money.
Also, a contract is usually given to the client, outlining what is expected (punctuality etc.) from the client, as well as what the Personal Trainer will do for them. If there are any questions that the client has, then they should be asked before the contract is signed.
